Normal People and Scream stars' new movie gets steamy first trailer
Carmen, the new film starring Normal People's Paul Mescal and Scream's Melissa Barrera, has released its steamy first trailer.
The film, which is directed by Benjamin Millepied, is based on Frank Wildhorn's 2008 musical and Georges Bizet's opera, both of which in turn were adapted from Prosper Mérimée's 1845 novel.
The sensual teaser trailer showcases the film's theatrical qualities, with dance numbers being at the centre of the clip. The film is currently scheduled to have a limited US release on April 21, while there is no news of a UK release date yet.

Mescal joined the project in 2020, replacing 50 Shades star Jamie Dornan in the role of Aidan. Upon the announcement, director Millepied said of Mescal and his co-stars: "I feel so lucky to have actors as extraordinary as Melissa, Paul and Rossy [de Palma] with me on this film.
"Melissa is so intelligent and intuitive, both as an actor and as a mover. I know she will bring depths to Carmen I could not even imagine. Paul has so much nuance and consideration in his work. I am thrilled to have them both bring this romance to life."
Mescal, who recently garnered an Academy Award nomination for his work on Aftersun, shot to fame for his role as Connell Waldron on BBC's Normal People, with the actor being acclaimed for his work.

Barrera will soon reprise her role as Sam Carpenter in the upcoming Scream VI, which is due to be released in the UK on March 8. The film follows on from the events of last year's relaunch, with the action moving from Woodsboro to New York City.
One person who won’t be returning, however, is Neve Campbell, with the Sidney Prescott actress unhappy with the offer made to her: "As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream," she said. "I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It's been a very difficult decision to move on."
Carmen is currently scheduled to be released in the US on April 21, while a UK release date is yet to be announced. Scream VI will be released in UK cinemas on March 8, and US cinemas two days later.
