Nordstrom Rack’s new Clovis store is almost ready.

The discount retailer opens at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 13.

It’s taking over the former Stein Mart store at 1085 Herndon Ave., near Clovis Avenue. That’s the Clovis Crossing shopping center, which is also home to Home Goods and Walmart.

The grand opening will feature light food, gift card giveaways and other attractions.

The 31,000-square-foot store is the discount version of the high-end retailer Nordstrom. The upscale store doesn’t have any locations in the Fresno area, but there is a Nordstrom Rack in Fresno.

Visalia is also getting a Nordstrom Rack in Sequoia Mall this fall.

The low-cost stores sell clothing for women, men and children at prices that can be up to 90% of original prices. Nordstrom Rack also carries shoes, handbags, jewelry and fragrances.

Although some of Nordstrom Rack’s clothes are overstock from its high-priced stores, it also carries items from other manufacturers.

The Clovis store will feature Nordstrom Rack’s new logo, inspired by the one it used in the 1970s and 1980s.

In the days before the store opens, the company will give $400 gift cards to kids participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California. They and their families will shop the store before it officially opens.
