Nordstrom Rack among new stores filling empty Bed Bath & Beyond spot in Manalapan

MANALAPAN - Fashion discounter Nordstrom Rack, the sister company to luxury retailer Nordstrom, will open a store at Manalapan Commons on Route 9 in spring 2025, the company said.

Nordstrom Rack, which touts its discounts of up to 70% on brand apparel, beauty, shoes and accessories, is leasing a 26,000-square-foot store at the shopping center, located at the intersection of Route 9 and Craig Road.

"We look forward to being a part of the Manalapan Township community and serving our customers with an amazing offering of great brands at great prices," said Gemma Lionello, president of Nordstrom Rack Stores, in a statement.

"We're excited to grow our footprint in the region and introduce new customers to the Nordstrom experience."

Nordstrom Rack's new storefront was formerly home to Bed Bath & Beyond. It closed in late 2022 as the big box retailer of housewares and home accessories began to unravel. The company, which also owned Harmon Face Values and buybuy Baby, would later declare bankruptcy and close all of its stores.

Nordstrom Rack is not the only new tenant coming to Manalapan Commons. CentraState Health System, in partnership with Atlantic Health, will be opening a new primary care and multispecialty location in the latter half of 2024, a spokesperson told What's Going There.

The 18,000-square-foot space was previously occupied by A.C. Moore, an arts and crafts retailer that closed all of its stores in late 2019.

Nordstrom Rack has nine stores in New Jersey, including one on Route 35 in Eatontown. With its new store in Manalapan, it will join Best Buy, Five Below, PetSmart and Raymour & Flanigan Outlet at the shopping center.

"Nordstrom Rack brings fashion to this center for the first time, broadening its appeal to the surrounding community," said Leigh Lyons, senior vice president of leasing for Urban Edge, the owner of Manalapan Commons, in a statement.

"We received interest from several large tenants before deciding to proceed with Nordstrom, supporting our view that Manalapan Commons as is a prime retail location in the trade area."
