As soon as the trailer for Season 5 of Fargo dropped, there was only one thing viewers were talking about. No, not the stacked cast, or how this latest installment in the ongoing crime series will fit into the loosely connected anthology format. It was Mad Men star Jon Hamm, who joins the cast as Roy Tillman, a corrupt and deranged North Dakota sheriff with a pair of matching nipple rings.

But the Emmy-winning actor, who is nude for a not-insubstantial portion of his screentime, didn't get his nipples pierced for real. At a press conference after the season premiere, Hamm revealed that he actually wore a set of specially made, "lifelike" prosthetic nipples for his shirtless scenes—and joked that he had a "nippleologist" on hand to help him with touch-ups.

"I had to have some very blue latex put on my nipples, and then they cast a resoundingly lifelike pair of nipples, which they then pierced and placed over my own nipples, and we shot said nipples," he explained. "The crew doesn’t get enough credit, but there was a dedicated nippleologist."

Season 5 of Fargo focuses on a seemingly ordinary Minnesota housewife Dorothy "Dot" Lyon, played by Ted Lasso star Juno Temple, who may or may not be hiding a shady criminal past. Joe Keery also appears as the Sheriff's lackey, Jennifer Jason Leigh plays Dot's icy mother-in-law, and Never Have I Ever's Richa Moorjani plays Minnesota police officer Indira Olmstead.
