A new No. 1: This week's IHSAA boys basketball Fab 15 has new team at top, two new entries

A look at this week’s Fab 15, a weekly ranking of the top high school boys basketball teams in Central Indiana:

1. Fishers (18-1)

The Tigers bounced back nicely from the loss to Carmel with a 51-49 win over Westfield and a 78-57 over Homewood-Flossmoor, the No. 1 team in Illinois. On the strength of those two victories, along with Lawrence North’s loss, I’m moving Fishers to the No. 1 spot for the first time. Senior Keenan Garner had 20 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win over Homewood-Flossmoor. Fishers hosts Cathedral on Friday. Previous: 2.

2. Lawrence North (18-1)

The Wildcats shot 29% from the field on the way to their first loss of the season, 42-35 at Carmel. Azavier Robinson had 22 points and four rebounds and Kai McGrew had six points and 13 rebounds. Lawrence North bounced back with a 93-59 win over Fort Wayne North Side as Robinson scored 23 points to pass Mike Conley for eighth place on the program’s all-time scoring list. Lawrence North is home this weekend against Ben Davis (Friday) and Fort Wayne Snider (Saturday afternoon). Previous: 1.

3. Westfield (14-2)

The Shamrocks had a couple of chances to knock off Fishers in the final seconds but dropped a 51-49 decision on the road. Trey Buchanan had 19 points, five rebounds and three assists and Nic Book added 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Up next: vs. Harrison (West Lafayette) on Tuesday and vs. Hamilton Heights on Friday. Previous: 3.

4. Noblesville (16-2)

The Millers picked apart a good Mt. Vernon team, 57-26, as Aaron Fine went for 21 points, five rebounds and three assists and Justin Curry added 18 points and three rebounds. Noblesville led 30-8 at halftime. Noblesville hosts Liberty Christian on Tuesday and travels to Brownsburg on Friday. Previous: 4.

5. Ben Davis (13-4)

The Giants jumped out to a big lead on Pike before holding on for a 56-46 win, then came from behind with a big third quarter to knock off Zionsville 62-49. K.J. Windham had 19 points, Mark Zackery 14 and Tavion Williams 13 in the win over Zionsville. Up next: at Covenant Christian (Tuesday), at Lawrence North (Friday) and vs. Lawrence Central (Saturday). Ben Davis can grab at least a share of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference championship with wins over Lawrence North and Lawrence Central. Previous: 6.

6. Cathedral (13-3)

The Irish lost 91-74 at Kokomo as the Wildkats outrebounded Cathedral by 10 and shot 57% from the field. Another difficult weekend is ahead for the Irish with a game at Fishers (Friday) and vs. Franklin Central (Saturday). Brady Koehler is averaging 17.8 points and 6.3 rebounds. Previous: 5.

7. Greenfield-Central (18-0)

Boston Willard had 18 points and four assists and Braylon Mullins added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 45-41 win over Delta. Mullins then had 24 points and eight points in a 66-47 win over Greenwood and Dallas Freeman added 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Up next: vs. Franklin County (Friday) and at Avon (Saturday). Previous: 8.

8. Center Grove (12-4)

The Trojans rolled to a 79-45 win over Floyd Central as Joey Schmitz scored 23 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the 3-point line and Will Spellman added 17 points and nine rebounds. Center Grove has won nine of its past 10 games, the only loss by one point to Fishers in overtime. Up next: at Zionsville (Tuesday), vs. Jeffersonville (Friday) and vs. Plainfield (Saturday). Three tough games. Previous: 9.

9. Carmel (9-9)

The Greyhounds continue to rise up this list after taking down Lawrence North 42-35 as Evan Harrell had 13 points and seven rebounds and Alex Couto scored 10 of his 12 points in the first quarter. Carmel was 6-for-15 from the 3-point line and held Lawrence North to 29% shooting from the field. Up next: at Hamilton Southeastern (Friday). Previous: 12.

10. Crispus Attucks (17-5)

Attucks lost 49-44 to Brownsburg, then bounced back to defeat Metropolitan (70-49) and Urbana, Ill. (82-52). Ron Rutland had 16 points and Dezmon Briscoe 14 points and 10 rebounds against Urbana. Mason Lewis went for 29 points on 12-for-14 shooting in the win over Metropolitan. The Tigers are off this week. Previous: 7.

11. Brebeuf Jesuit (12-4)

The Braves knocked off Lutheran 73-52 and Park Tudor 70-57 to extend their winning streak to five games. Evan Haywood had 20 points and five rebounds in the win over Lutheran and Javawn Brooks added 14 points and five rebounds. Haywood had 22 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Park Tudor and Reis Butcher added 18 points. Up next: at Covenant Christian (Friday). Previous: 10.

12. Hamilton Southeastern (13-6)

The Royals knocked off Franklin Central 58-46 as Braeden Totton scored 20 points and Nathaniel Orr added 19 points, five rebounds and four assists. HSE hosts Carmel on Friday and is at Southport on Saturday. The Royals have won five of their past six games. Previous: 13.

13. New Palestine (14-4)

The Dragons defeated Perry Meridian (71-52) and Southport (73-60). Julius Gizzi had 27 points and eight rebounds in the win over Perry Meridian and 37 points and nine rebounds in the win over Southport. New Palestine has an interesting game Tuesday at Guerin Catholic and hosts Shelbyville on Friday and Connersville on Saturday. Previous: 14.

14. Franklin (14-3)

The Grizzly Cubs won 62-60 at Warren Central as Micah Davis went for 40 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the 3-point line with seven rebounds and four assists. Up next: vs. Perry Meridian (Friday). Previous: NR.

15. Brownsburg (11-9)

The Bulldogs knocked off Crispus Attucks 49-44 as Jordan Lomax led the way with 19 points. Brownsburg won four of its past six games going into a home game Monday night against Notre Dame de La Salette (Ill.). Brownsburg hosts Noblesville on Friday night in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game. Previous: NR.

Dropped out: North Central (11), Warren Central (15)

Next five in line: Lawrence Central (9-8), North Central (12-6), Warren Central (11-9), Zionsville (10-9), Plainfield (13-6)
