NJ's Joanne Carducci is surprise character on 'SNL' skit

New Jersey political commentator Joanne Carducci was surprised to find herself as a character in a popular recurring skit on "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend.

Carducci's character, played by host and actress Dakota Johnson, sits on a political panel in The Barry Gibb Talk Show that is supposed to focus on the 2024 presidential election. Instead of allowing his guests to answer questions, Barry Gibb, the Bee Gees singer played by Jimmy Fallon, breaks out into hilarious rants fueled by ego and temper.

His brother, Robin Gibb, played by Justin Timberlake, says little, but together they keep interrupting their show with spontaneous singing in trademark falsetto voices.

Carducci's character gives a wry smile, hands folded in lap, until Gibb gets to her question. "I know you’re a vocal critic of President Trump, however people have said he was correct about the border and China," Fallon's Bigg says in a choppy, high voice.

Dakota's Carducci, who donned a long blond wig to look like Carducci, tries to respond. "Well that depends on which metric you…" she says before she is cut off.

Gibb, played by Fallon, stands up screaming, waving arms and tossing flowers. "How dare you interrupt me? I do not play! I am legend! You cannot break me!"

Carducci, who was interviewed and profiled in The Record in September, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Umm… so, I guess I was on SNL."

Asked whether she knew beforehand about the character, Carducci replied “I had no idea.”

She described the experience online as "surreal."

Carducci, of Hackettstown, known as JoJoFromJerz, rose to prominence as an online political commentator during the Trump administration, with biting commentary about a variety of issues from a left-wing point of view and about the former president's shenanigans. She is also creator and host of the podcast, "Are You F’ng Kidding Me."
