Nixa food hall adds Korean food spot; coffee shop closes Downtown Springfield location

This week in Springfield-area restaurant news: A new place for Korean barbecue is set to open in January and a local coffee shop closes its downtown Springfield location.

Korean BBQ coming to Nixa food hall

Nixa's food hall will be getting another new addition with The Gochu Handcrafted Korean BBQ Bowl. Starting in January, The Gochu — which means chili pepper in Korean — will serve specialty drinks, appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and bowls.

According to a post from 14 Mill Market, 203 E. Mount Vernon St., The Gochu's specialty will be a brisket bulgogi bowl, which is brisket that has been soy-marinated and cooked to perfection with stir-fry assorted vegetables served on top of steamed rice with two side dishes.

Black Lab Coffee closes downtown Springfield location

Black Lab Coffee Co. in downtown Springfield closed last week. However, its other locations at 3541 S. Lone Pine Ave. and 545 E. Elm St. in Republic are still open.

Black Lab Coffee announced last week that it closed its downtown Springfield location at 300 W. McDaniel St.

"It has been a difficult decision to make. We thank you all for 3 great years in downtown Springfield and are very grateful for you all and the regulars that have become like family," Black Lab Coffee Co. said in the Facebook post.

The Black Lab Coffee Co. locations in Galloway, 3541 S. Lone Pine Ave., and in Republic, 545 E. Elm St., will continue to operate and gift cards can be redeemed there.
