49ers star Christian McCaffrey and former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo announce engagement
As of this week, San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey and former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo are engaged.
The couple announced via Instagram on Friday that Culpo accepted McCaffrey's proposal during a vacation in Utah, after four years of dating.
As Culpo once recalled, she and McCaffrey began dating in 2019 after being set up by friends, but she was "apprehensive" at first. She later explained to People she had previously set a "no athletes ever again" rule after previous dates with Tim Tebow and Ryan Lochte didn't work out.
On their third dating anniversary, she said giving athletes another chance worked out:
"I was worried it would be the same old story all over again and that all guys were the same. While my expectations were low, I knew I couldn’t close myself off and make decisions based on fear ... I’m so grateful for the voice inside me that told me to give love another chance. The yin to my yang, you are the epitome of strength through humility. Thank you for being my rock and restoring my faith in love. You are everything I ever dreamed of and more."
McCaffrey is coming off a season split between the Niners and the Carolina Panthers after being sent west in a blockbuster midseason trade. The former top 10 pick received his second career Pro Bowl honor after posting 1,139 rushing yards, 741 receiving yards and 13 total touchdowns, plus 299 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in three postseason games.
Culpo won the "Miss Universe" pageant in 2012 and has since built a career that includes 5.3 million Instagram followers, the TLC reality series "The Culpo Sisters," a number of acting roles and an appearance on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
