The Night Manager Seasons 2 and 3 Ordered at Amazon; Tom Hiddleston Set to Return

Tom Hiddleston‘s Jonathan Pine is returning for not one, but two more seasons of The Night Manager, according to a report from our sister site Deadline.

More than a year after it was speculated that The Night Manager might return, the BBC and new co-production partner Amazon have reportedly ordered two more seasons of the John le Carré adaptation, with Hiddleston set to reprise his leading role. (AMC previously aired Season 1 of the series, which is now moving to Prime Video.)

Hugh Laurie, who co-starred in Season 1 as arms dealer Richard Roper, will be back to exec-produce, though it has yet to be confirmed if his character will return, as well. Series creator David Farr will once again write the scripts, while Georgi Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie) is on board to direct.

Season 2 will reportedly pick up eight years after the events of the freshman finale and will begin filming later this year. Additional plot specifics are not yet available.

Rumors of a potential Season 2 began swirling in 2017 when The Ink Factory, BBC and AMC stated they were in “the early stages” of developing a second series. However, a follow-up would’ve forced the writers to expand the premise beyond what was previously adapted from le Carré’s novel; at the time, the author had never before allowed his characters to go “off-book,” which will now happen for Prime Video’s upcoming seasons.

The first season also starred Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki and David Harewood. It nabbed three Golden Globes, awarding Hiddleston, Laurie and Colman for their work in the limited series. It also scored two Emmys (for directing and musical composition).
