'Night of 1,000 Faces' to return to Weymouth just in time for Halloween

WEYMOUTH − It may not be a sequel, but The New England Wildlife Center's annual spooktacular "Night of a Thousand Faces" is making a live and in-person comeback this Halloween season.

The trails of the center will be lined with 1,000 carved and lit jack-o'-lanterns for the two-day event, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 and 28 at the center, 500 Columbian St. in Weymouth.

Center President Katrina Bergman said the in-person event had been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are so excited to have the community back," Bergman said. "We so love to have the community in. All our staff, everyone is pumped."

She said the event offers something for the entire family.

The event also includes tours of the hospital, animal demonstrations, Halloween displays, music and treats such as cookies and cotton candy.

Bergman said the pumpkins are donated by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department and are grown on its farm. They are carved a couple of days before the event by groups of volunteers, she said.

The event has attracted about 4,000 people each year and is an important fundraiser for the center, which cares for injured and orphaned animals and runs education programs.

"We still hope we'll get the same number of people," Bergman said. "It's been a real loss not to have it."

Admission costs $10.
