‘The Resident’ Debuts as No. 2 Most-Streamed Title After Nielsen Expands Measurement Capabilities for Weekly Top 10

Beginning with the March 25-31 viewing window, Nielsen has expanded its streaming measurement capability, resulting in the company’s ability to report the viewership of a number of titles for which previously unavailable. Per Nielsen, a combination of previous business agreements and technical aspects of measurement prevented several acquired series from inclusion in its weekly rankings, and while most of those titles would not have made the Top 10 anyways, some are debuting for the first time thanks to more accurate analysis.

Among those titles is “The Resident,” which appeared on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for the first time during this viewing window in the No. 2 position with 1.5 billion minutes watched. The medical procedural ran on Fox for six seasons from 2018 to 2023 before being canceled, and has seen increased popularity since being added to Netflix in early March, though it was already available on Hulu.

“Family Guy” also jumped onto the overall Top 10 because of the measurement update, taking sixth place with 837 million minutes watched. And on the chart of the Top 10 acquired titles, the update drove “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” to No. 7 (663 million minutes) and “American Dad!” to No. 9 (619 million minutes).

“The Resident” ranked only behind “3 Body Problem,” which held No. 1 for the second week in a row with 1.8 billion minutes watched, up from its 1.4 billion-minute debut the week before. At No. 3 was “Testament: The Story of Moses,” which debuted with 1 billion minutes watched in its first five days of availability.

The rest of the chart held fewer surprises: fourth and fifth place went to “Bluey” (963 million minutes) and “NCIS” (912 million minutes), which make the chart most weeks. “Grey’s Anatomy,” another chart regular, took seventh place (778 million minutes), coming in just after “Road House,” the Amazon Prime Video film that debuted last week with 1.3 billion minutes watched and fell to 812 million minutes. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” continued its Netflix-aided hot streak with 714 million minutes watched, while “Homicide: New York” rounded out the bottom of the chart with 680 million minutes watched in its second week on the chart.
