Nicole Kidman's Prime Video show Expats gets release date
Prime Video has set a release date for Nicole Kidman's upcoming limited series Expats.
Expats, an adaptation of the best-selling novel The Expatriates by Janice Y K Lee, is set to hit the streaming service on January 26.
Set in 2014 Hong Kong, the series follows three American women, Margaret (Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue) and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo), whose lives cross paths in the wake of Margaret's youngest son's disappearance.
The six-episode miniseries will be the television debut of The Farewell director Lulu Wang. Expats is executive produced by Dani Melia, who also collaborated with Wang on the 2019 film.
Speaking to Deadline about the creation of Expats, Melia revealed Kidman had approached Wang about directing an adaptation of The Expatriates while they were in Australia.
Melia said Wang then told her: "I need to find a way to do this with you and the rest of the crew who did The Farewell. I want my creative team onboard, and I think this should be our next thing."
The producer added: "We had the support of lots of new creative blood as well, which was wonderful, and the support of Blossom and Per and Nicole, obviously, helping us transition from a scrappy team who made a low-budget feature that crossed over to making this big international production.
"It was a great learning experience for all of us."

Meanwhile, Kidman recently joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix murder mystery series The Perfect Couple.
The six-part series follows Celeste Otis, a Nantucket local who's about to marry into the wealthiest family in the area. However, the Fourth of July wedding is ruined when a body is found floating in the harbour — and every guest is a suspect.
Directed by The Undoing's Susanne Bier, the series is based on Elin Hilderbrand's best-selling novel of the same name.
Expats arrives on Prime Video on January 26.
