Nicki Minaj Fans Call Rapper 'Lethal' After New Lyric About OceanGate Tragedy

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is getting mixed reactions from fans after including a controversial lyric in her new song.

After releasing her latest track titled, "For All the Barbz,' on Friday, Oct. 20, some users online didn't know how to react to a specific lyric mentioning the OceanGate tragedy that occurred earlier this year.

In case you need a refresher, OceanGate's Titan submersible was headed for the Titanic wreckage site back in June when it tragically imploded during its voyage, killing all five passengers on board.

Minaj, 40, references the situation in her new song with the lyric, "One sub killed 5 bitches, Ocean Gate," a line that is definitely grabbing attention, both good and bad.

"The submarine line 😭😭😭😭 mother is mothering," one of her supporters commented on her latest Instagram post, while someone else added, "Submarine line goes crazy sisssss."

"OMFG the PEN is LETHAL," another person wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the song, which is currently only available on YouTube and Minaj's official website.

"That ocean gate line added to her most unhinged bars," someone else wrote.

But other listeners weren't so sure about the biting lyric, including one person on X who said it was "heartless" to find humor in Minaj's OceanGate line.

Another person replied to an Instagram post of the song from The Shade Room, lamenting in the comments, "Mentioning the sub with the 5 ppl s--t is corny idc idc, that wasn’t cool.😒‼️"

But the "Barbie World" artist isn't exactly a stranger to writing polarizing lines for her songs, as she previously got backlash for flippantly referencing the Columbine High School shooting in her song "Roman Reloaded."

"Take you bitches to school than I Columbine these hoes," she said in the 2012 track, which rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, considering the sensitive nature of the deadly shooting that took place in Colorado back in 1999.

While talking about the new OceanGate lyric, one user on X wrote, "Let's add this to the list of disrespectful bars by Nicki...This right up there with the columbine line."
