Over the past two weeks, Oklahoma and Texas have taken significant steps to leave the Big 12 and join the SEC.

Earlier today, they submitted their formal requests for SEC membership. The Sooners and Longhorns have been dominating the headlines over the past two weeks thanks to their move.

However, one of the most informed head coaches in all of football suggested he doesn’t know enough to answer questions about the move just yet. Reporters asked Alabama coach Nick Saban about the two newest members of the SEC.

Saban, though, suggested he ” doesn’t know enough about” the move to have an opinion.

Saban was obviously aware Texas and Oklahoma would be joining the conference in the near future. It’s very difficult to believe he wasn’t briefed by SEC commissioner Greg Sankey before the move was placed into action.

Speaking of Greg Sankey, earlier today he announced that he received applications from Oklahoma and Texas in a press release.

“The University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas, two esteemed academic institutions with storied athletic programs, today submitted formal requests for invitations to become members of the Southeastern Conference in 2025,” Sankey said.

It’s unclear when Oklahoma and Texas will officially make the jump to the SEC. They could choose to wait until 2025 or pay a fee to the Big 12 and make the jump sooner.
