Nick Chubb got PAID. Earlier tonight, the Cleveland Browns locked their star running back up with a big contract extension.

Chubb signed a three-year contract extension worth $36.6 million, with $20 million guaranteed. That’s a pretty penny for a running back in this era of the NFL, but it also gives him some nice flexibility, as he’ll be a free agent again at 29 years old.

In three years with the Browns, Chubb has 3,557 yards and 28 touchdowns. Last year, he managed 1,067 yards in just 12 games, averaging an impressive 5.6 yards per carry. The Browns have built an efficient offense around his gifts in the backfield.

In reaction to the deal, Nick Chubb kept it short and sweet. “Let’s go Cleveland,” he wrote on Instagram, along with a photo of himself in a Browns uniform.

Getting Nick Chubb under contract was a big step for the Browns for the next few years. Next up could be Baker Mayfield. The Browns have already picked up his fifth-year option for 2022, and with his up-and-down production, could be waiting for a breakout this fall. He has plenty to prove, as does the team as a whole.

With Chubb, Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry on offense, and a solid defense anchored by Myles Garrett, the Browns have sky-high expectations.

They were one of the surprises of the 2020 season, reaching the Divisional Round of the AFC Playoffs, where they lost narrowly to the eventual conference champion Kansas City Chiefs 22-17. Now, there is no sneaking up on the league. The Browns have their eyes on a Super Bowl.
