On Tuesday afternoon, the hockey world erupted when the Chicago Blackhawks reportedly traded for veteran goalie Marc-Andre Fluery.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights goaltender just brought home the Vezina Trophy – awarded to the league’s best goalie. However, it’s clear that wasn’t enough to keep Fleury in the organization.

Not long after the trade rumors started, Fleury’s agent revealed he still hadn’t heard about anyone from within the Las Vegas organization. He said Fleury would be taking some time to evaluate his future.

ESPN reported Fleury was thinking about retiring if he was traded by the Golden Knights. Now that he appears to be on the move, fans are having fun with the idea of Fleury stepping away from the game, rather than play for Chicago next season.

Other fans started connecting the dots between Fleury and the Pittsburgh Penguins, who struggled during the 2021 season without competent goaltending.

Fleury played the majority of his career for the Penguins and a reunion could make sense for both sides.

Fleury is coming off of arguably the best year of his career, going 26-10-0 with a career-best .928 save percentage and 1.98 GAA. However, the Golden Knights appear ready to hand the keys over to Robin Lehner for the future.

Will Fleury retire or suit up for another team next season?
