Injuries have put a real damper on this young NFL season. The Miami Dolphins just made the tough decision to put starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on the injured reserve.

That will keep Tua out for a minimum of three weeks. That will cost him Sunday’s game at the Las Vegas Raiders, as well as next week’s home game against the Indianapolis Colts, and the following week’s trip to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jacoby Brissett will step in for Tua and try to keep the Dolphins, who have serious playoff aspirations, afloat. Obviously it is tough for any team to lose its QB1, but it is even more unfortunate for the Dolphins, who have plenty to learn about what his ceiling is in that position.

As of now, he’ll be eligible to return from the rib injury on Oct. 17. The Dolphins are in London that day, going against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It could be a good spot to ease him back into things, if he’s ready.

It is hard not to have some concerns for Tua long term. While his injury issues all seem pretty unrelated, it is hard to shake the idea that he is fairly injury prone at this point, dating back to his issues in college at Alabama.

Tua Tagovailoa threw for 202 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the season opener, a win over the New England Patriots. He had just 13 yards before going down in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.

Last season, he completed 64.1-percent of his throws for 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five picks.

Hopefully this doesn’t turn into a lingering issue, and we see Tua back in less than a month.
