NFL World Reacts To Sean Taylor’s Brother’s Admission

The Washington Football Team faced major criticism this week for the timing of their Sean Taylor jersey retirement announcement.

A couple of days ago, the NFC East franchise announced that they would be retiring Taylor’s jersey – this weekend. Fans were upset at the timing of the announcement, believing it was a ploy to get people to forget about the Jon Gruden email controversy (which involved the WFT franchise).

Washington Football Team president Jason Wright has since apologized.

“We thought that saving the news for a game week reveal was the best way to focus the message on Sean and his legacy,” Wright wrote. “We didn’t realize that so many of you wanted to make a trip to FedExField to be present for this moment — a true lack of understanding of what you, the lifeblood of this franchise, needed to mourn our collective loss and celebrate Sean’s legacy.

“As the guy who really wanted us to start honoring players better and differently — in line with what they paid in the blood, sweat, and tears — I’m angry and sad that we messed up your opportunity to honor Sean in person this weekend. I feel a pit in my stomach knowing how we have let so many of you down.”

While the franchise claims they’ve been planning this for weeks, Taylor’s younger brother seems to indicate otherwise.

“I found out probably, I’ll say like four days ago,” Gabe Taylor said.

Oh boy.

“This has gone nuclear. Sean Taylor’s brother says the family didn’t know about the jersey retirement until this week. Unreal. Unfathomable,” longtime Washington Football Team insider JP Finlay tweeted.

Fans are not surprised, though.

“Hate to put her on the spot, but where is the COO Mrs. Snyder? Dan thrust her into the spotlight as “in charge.” I thought she would be front and center. Didn’t take long for her to see what he was up to,” one fan tweeted.

“Purely a way to change the news story about the WFT organization and problems in light of Gruden resigning / being fired. Also explains why there will only be 10,000 Sean Taylor towels being given out on Sunday. All they could get made in such short period of time..” another fan speculated.

“This is disgusting and shameful what WFT is doing. Sean Taylor deserves to be honored and have his number retired but WFT is just using his memory as a shield from scandal,” one fan added.

The Washington Football Team is set to host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
