Earlier this week, the Deshaun Watson trade rumors once again took center stage as John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins grew closer to a potential trade.

The Dolphins aren’t the only team being mentioned as a potential landing spot for Watson, though. Earlier in the year, the Carolina Panthers were among the teams reportedly interested.

Well, NFL insider Tony Pauline suggested the Panthers are still in the hunt for Watson. “According to what sources tell PFN Insider Tony Pauline, the Panthers may be eyeing Deshaun Watson as a potential replacement if things don’t turn around,” the article from Pro Football Network said.

Of course, that caused quite a reaction on social media.

“Big game for Sam Darnold on Sunday because there appears to be real smoke to this Deshaun Watson talk,” one fan said.

“Do it Carolina,” said another fan.

Earlier this week, Panthers head coach Matt Rhule was asked about a potential trade for Watson. He made it clear he still has faith in former New York Jets first-round pick Sam Darnold.

“I believe Sam (Darnold) is going to be a great quarterback for the Carolina Panthers,” he said. “I’m bought in on Sam.”

If Darnold doesn’t finish the season well, though, the Panthers could be on the hunt for a new quarterback.
