It wouldn’t be an NFL offseason without Chris Simms unveiling his quarterback rankings for the new season. Of course, his “Simms Top 40 QB Countdown” has sparked a few debates on social media this week.

The beginning of Simms’ list is pretty straightforward, as he has Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers in his top three. Things get a bit dicey after that though, especially once you get out of the top 10.

For starters, Simms has nine quarterbacks ranked over Tom Brady. His rankings are always based on his projections for the 2021 season, so perhaps he sees Brady’s production with the Buccaneers dropping off just a tad this fall. Regardless, fans don’t like seeing the reigning Super Bowl MVP ranked so low.

Another questionable decision Simms made was ranking Jared Goff outside of the top 30. He was ranked behind several quarterbacks who haven’t proven anything yet in the NFL.

“Ouch, Goff behind three rookies and a utility QB,” one fan replied to Simms’ rankings. The utility quarterback this fan is referring to is Taysom Hill from the New Orleans Saints.

Simms also turned heads with his ranking for Tua Tagovailoa. Although the former first-round pick had some rough moments during his rookie season, ranking him behind Mac Jones is a little ridiculous.

Eagles fans should probably be disgusted with Simms’ list. He didn’t even rank Jalen Hurts in his top 40, which is saying something when you see Kellen Mond toward the bottom of his rankings.

“Kellen Mond? Y’all really put a 3rd round selection back up rookie QB over Jalen Hurts,” an Eagles fan tweeted.

Simms is usually spot-on when it comes to grading quarterbacks, but this list is certainly going to infuriate a few NFL fan bases.
