NFL training camp 2022: Raiders QB Derek Carr not bothered by Dana White-Tom Brady rumors

With plenty of rumors swirling in recent days about a failed move to bring Tom Brady to Las Vegas, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr insists that he’s not bothered by any of the talk.

At least, he’s not anymore.

“By now, I would hope so,” Carr said when asked if he’s immune to the gossip, via The Athletic’s Vic Tafur.

UFC president Dana White revealed on a stream with Rob Gronkowski on Saturday that he had helped broker a deal that nearly brought Gronkowski and Brady to the Raiders in 2020. The deal was all but set in stone, and White said Brady was even looking at houses in the area, before then-Raiders coach Jon Gruden blew it up.

Raiders owner Mark Davis was asked about White’s story — which Gronkowski confirmed on the show during UFC 278 — and said he didn’t remember much of the details.

“That was what, two to three years ago or something? I don’t know. Talk to Dana,” he said. “I remember that Tom Brady went to Tampa Bay. That’s basically what I remember.”

While the deal didn’t happen, it would be easy to understand if Carr was concerned about it. Brady would have replaced him, after all.

And now that this story has come out, many have connected it with comments that Brady made on HBO’s “The Shop” in June — where he called one anonymous quarterback a “motherf***er.”

Brady said on the show that he was snubbed by a team — now presumably the Raiders — and “then all of the sudden they weren’t interested in the very end.” That’s when he questioned the unnamed quarterback on that team.

“You’re sticking with that motherf***er?” Brady said on the show.

While it’s unclear if Carr knew of the alleged deal in 2020, or if he connected Brady's comment to him, Carr insists that he isn’t bothered by it at this point. The Raiders are clearly fully behind the 31-year-old as he enters his ninth season with the franchise.

Carr also said that he heard of White’s story the same day that he learned of the death of someone close to a Raiders staff member, which really changed things for him.

“It puts things in perspective,” Carr said, via 8 News Now’s Logan Reever. “It really doesn’t matter.”
