NFL power rankings Week 8: The Taylor Swift effect on Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are on a roll, having won an NFL best 6-straight games after losing their season opener, 21-20 to the Detroit Lions in Week 1.

So is tight end Travis Kelce, who is putting up huge numbers for the defending Super Bowl champions.

You know, the player who is better known by some people for dating pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Kelce had 12 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown with Swift in attendance in the Chiefs' 31-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

But it isn't the first time he's shined with Swift watching.

Kelce is averaging 108 receiving yards a game with Swift in attendance this season. The Chiefs are a perfect 4-0, while averaging 28.5 points per game and 432.3 total yards in those games.

Without Swift at games, Kelce is averaging 46.5 receiving yards and the Chiefs are 2-1. They have averaged 21.3 points per game and 349.3 total yards per game.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid has apparently noticed the effect Swift has had on Kelce and his team.

"Taylor can stay around all she wants," Reid said after Kansas City's win over the Chargers on Sunday.

How long can the Swift effect keep the Chiefs No. 1 in our NFL power rankings?

They stay there this week ahead of their NFL Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos. Will Swift be in attendance in Denver for that game?

Check out how we rank all 32 teams in the NFL heading into NFL Week 8 games, with the previous ranking in parenthesis.

Beat Raiders, 30-12, to improve to 2-5. QB Tyson Bagent is 31-for-43 for 245 yards, with one touchdown and one interception this season.

29. Denver Broncos (30)

Beat Packers, 19-17, to improve to 2-5. Denver only needed one touchdown to beat Green Bay. Wil Lutz's four field goals provided the difference.

27. New York Giants (27)

Beat Commanders, 14-7, to improve to 2-5. Darren Waller was among several NFL tight ends to go off in Week 7. He had seven catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.

26. Tennessee Titans (26)

Entered bye week in NFL Week 7 with a 2-4 record.

24. Green Bay Packers (24)

Lost to Broncos, 19-17, to fall to 2-4. Green Bay has lost three straight after a 2-1 start. Being an NFL starting QB isn't so easy, is it, Jordan Love?

23. Los Angeles Chargers (14)

Lost to Chiefs, 31-17, to fall to 2-4. That's a big drop for the Chargers, who had such high expectations entering the season. Brandon Staley has to be on the hot seat.

22. Las Vegas Raiders (23)

Lost to Bears, 30-12, to fall to 3-4. Veteran Brian Hoyer threw two interceptions in the loss. Maybe Jimmy Garoppolo isn't so bad.

21. Indianapolis Colts (22)

Lost to Browns, 39-38, to fall to 3-4. Shane Steichen's team may be 3-4, but it has impressed under the first-year head coach this season.

20. New Orleans Saints (20)

Lost to Saints, 31-24, to fall to 3-4. The Derek Carr era isn't exactly off to the best of starts. He's completing 63.9% of his passes, with six touchdowns and four interceptions this season.

19. Houston Texans (19)

Entered bye week in NFL Week 7 with a 3-3 record.

18. Los Angeles Rams (18)

Lost to Steelers, 24-17, to fall to 3-4. A controversial, non-reviewable fourth-down call hurt the Rams in their loss. They should have never put themselves in that situation.

17. Washington Commanders (17)

Lost to Giants, 14-7, to fall to 3-4. Eric Bieniemy's offense is going through some growing pains with Sam Howell, who has nine TDs and seven interceptions this season.

16. Cincinnati Bengals (16)

Entered bye week in NFL Week 7 with a 3-3 record.

15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12)

Lost to Falcons, 16-13, to fall to 3-3. That was an interesting final minute of this game. The Bucs tied the game on a 36-yard field goal with 45 seconds left before the Falcons won it with a 51-yarder as time expired.

14. Atlanta Falcons (21)

Beat Buccaneers, 16-13, to improve to 4-3. The Falcons have been outscored this season. 133-115. This team has issues, particularly at QB, but 4-3 is 4-3.

13. New York Jets (13)

Entered bye week in NFL Week 7 with a 3-3 record.

12. Cleveland Browns (15)

Beat Colts, 39-38, to improve to 4-2. This team's defense always gives it a chance, even when its starting QB only completes 15 of 32 passes for 178 yards.

11. Buffalo Bills (7)

Lost to Patriots, 29-25, to fall to 4-3. Something just isn't right with the Bills, who seem to always be in catchup mode late in recent weeks. They haven't been able to catch up in two of the last three games.

10. Detroit Lions (5)

Lost to Ravens, 38-6, to fall to 5-2. We hyped the Lions in this space last week. They got a good serving of humble pie against Baltimore.

9. Baltimore Ravens (11)

Beat Lions, 38-6, to improve to 5-2. We think this team should be ranked higher, but we can't put them ahead of the Steelers, who beat them earlier this season.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers (10)

Beat Rams, 24-17, to improve to 4-2. The Steelers have been outscored this season, 103-127, and are 4-2. Defense can win you games.

7. Dallas Cowboys (9)

Entered bye week in NFL Week 7 with a 4-2 record.

6. Seattle Seahawks (8)

Beat Cardinals, 20-10, to improve to 4-2. This team isn't flashy, it just gets the job done and it doesn't ask Geno Smith to do too much. It's working.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars (6)

Beat Saints, 31-24, to improve to 5-2. Make that four straight wins for the Jaguars, who could end up running away with the NFC South.

4. Miami Dolphins (4)

Lost to Eagles, 31-17, to fall to 5-2. How's this for balance? The Dolphins have 16 passing touchdowns and 15 rushing touchdowns this season.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (3)

Beat Dolphins, 31-17, to improve to 6-1. The Eagles' defense looked really good in shutting down the high-powered Dolphins offense in Week 7.

2. San Francisco 49ers (2)

Enter NFL Week 7 Monday Night Football game vs. Vikings with a 5-1 record.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (1)

Beat Chargers, 31-17, to improve to 6-1. Taylor Swift might really be a good luck charm for the Chiefs and Travis Kelce.
