NFL Network's Jeremiah on Bengals pick Jermaine Burton: 'Some questions about maturity'
Former Cincinnati Bengals great TJ Houshmandzadeh introduced the team's first of two third-round picks in the 2024 NFL draft: Alabama Crimson Tide receiver Jermaine Burton.
"This pick means something to me, as I've been training this kid for a long time," Houshmandzadeh said before announcing the pick.
"TJ Houshmandzadeh also trained Tee Higgins during the run-up to that draft," NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah said during the broadcast. "And the Bengals listened to him. So, he might need to be on the scouting staff there for the Cincinnati Bengals. He's got a voice. There's a lot of talent with Jermaine Burton. Big burst. He can track the ball really well. A Georgia transfer. The knock on him and one of the reasons quite honestly why he's available right now is there were some questions about maturity. He just needed to grow up a little bit. I think TJ Houshmandzadeh has helped him in that department. But in terms of having that juice, that second gear, when the ball's in the air. He has that. The speed is real. The effort is there. You see that on an interception. You see him chase it down. He loves football. Just a process - some of these guys are young. He's just got to grow up a little bit. I think he's in the process of doing that."

That's as fired up as I've seen Zac Taylor about a pick.
Amarius Mims wasn't the big swing (there's a much better feel for how his game will translate). This was the big swing that will show a lot about the Bengals' ability to get the best out of a receiver who hasn't put the…— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) April 27, 2024
On paper, the selections between the Bengals' second and first third round pick went pretty perfectly for them. A lot of players at positions that they didn't need, and Mitchell and Corley were the only receivers who got picked.

The talent Jermaine Burton is clearly enough that Zac Taylor and Co. feel like they can take on a player with some off the field questions. @MoveTheSticks says "maturity" is something Burton lacks. Have to imagine being in a room with Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase will change…

Jermaine Burton: "My passion and everything comes from football. I put a lot of work in. I have a lot of emotion that goes into this game. I express myself through football. I just want to play. Nothing else matters to me."
