Dak Prescott sat out of the Dallas Cowboys second preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night, as he continues to nurse a small shoulder injury. The team has remained thoroughly optimistic about his recovery, but has yet to give a major update on when he’ll be back practicing or be ready to play in a game.

On Saturday afternoon, Ian Rapoport gave a hint that Prescott’s return may be just around the corner.

The NFL Network insider reported that all of the 28-year-old’s tests have come back positive and that the Cowboys still feel optimistic about his recovery. At this point, there’s hope that he’ll be able to return to practice in some capacity next week.

“Dak Prescott continues to progress and had no issues after throwing prior to last night’s game. All tests have been good,” Rapoport wrote on Twitter. The Cowboys are taking it slow, but the hope was to practice some this week and play in the final preseason game.”

Rapoport’s update would mean that Prescott plans to miss next Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans, but is eyeing a return for the Cowboys’ preseason final at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cowboys fans can breathe a sigh of relief at the newest update as concern was starting to grow that Prescott’s shoulder injury was worse than previously feared. When the team shared new that the 28-year-old quarterback was planning to undergo a second MRI this past week, many in the Dallas fanbase thought that something might’ve gone awry in his recovery.

But, team leadership and Prescott himself have maintained that he’ll be on the field come Week 1 of the regular season. That would mark his first time in an NFL game since he suffered a gruesome leg injury in Week 5 of last year.

If Prescott is on the field for all or most of the 2021 regular season, the Cowboys have a great chance to win the NFC East, plain and simple. If he’s not out there, the mountain to the top will be much harder to climb.
