NFL free agency 2024: Tracking all the NY Giants news and rumors as they hit the market

Joe Schoen and the New York Giants admittingly have work to do. A lot of work to do.

The Giants will enter free agency with $38.4 million in salary cap space, according to NFLPA records, and they can increase that number by restructuring the mega deals carried by stars Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas.

Here's the bottom line: the Giants need to be a better team in 2024. Period.

If that means with players who can be a part of future success, it's going to be a bonus.

“The roster could look a lot different in three weeks from now based on what we do in free agency," Schoen acknowledged at the Combine last month. “So, that’s evolving. That’ll help set our plan as we go into the draft."

The league's negotiating period for free agents begins Monday at 12 p.m. and runs until the start of free agency on Wednesday at 4 p.m. There will be reports, speculation and rumors regarding what the Giants will do, and we'll keep track of everything for you.

Here's a look at the positions that will likely garner the most attention for Big Blue.

Offensive line

The Giants might try to come away with as many as three starters up front, at least both guard spots and some insurance for Evan Neal at right tackle. Mike Onwenu is the best guard on the roster, but ESPN reported Sunday that he may be looking for tackle money, which could take him out of the mix for the Giants. Onwenu does have a connection with Giants offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo from their time together in New England.

Other linemen likely on the radar: G Jonah Jackson, G Robert Hunt, T Jermaine Eluemunor and G Jon Runyon Jr.

Edge

The Giants will undoubtedly look to add to a group headlined by Kayvon Thibodeaux, especially given the importance new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen's system places on generating pressure with the front. Danielle Hunter will command big money. Bryce Huff will likely shake free from the Jets and he should have quite the market as well. A.J. Epenesa of the Bills could be an underrated add.

Other Edge players possibly on the radar: Chase Young; Josh Uche; Denico Autry; Andrew Van Ginkel.

Safety

This is all contingent on whether Xavier McKinney returns or signs elsewhere. If he goes, the Giants could go one of two ways. They could look for a younger safety like Kam Curl of Washington or North Jersey native Jordan Fuller of the Rams. If they want more experience on a shorter term deal, Jordan Poyer is someone Schoen is plenty familiar with from their days together in Buffalo.

Other safeties who could be on the radar: Justin Simmons, Eddie Jackson.

Running back

Like the situation with McKinney, the Giants likely won't look to add to this position if Saquon Barkley returns. If Barkley goes elsewhere, the Giants could seek out less expensive options such as Tony Pollard, Devin Singletary or Zack Moss - the latter two have a history with Schoen and coach Brian Daboll in Buffalo.

Other running backs who could be on the radar: Austin Ekeler, Gus Edwards, D'Andre Swift and A.J. Dillon.

Cornerback

Darious Williams was in East Rutherford on Sunday visiting the Giants. He was released by the Jaguars earlier this week. Williams, 30, would be a strong addition opposite Tae Banks. He received a 79.5 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus last year. His price point will likely land around $10 million plus per year.

Other corners who could be on the radar: Sean Murphy-Bunting, Kristian Fulton and Tre'Davious White.
