NFL 2022: Ravens reportedly visit with and plan to sign former Raiders RB Kenyan Drake

It didn't take long for running back Kenyan Drake to find a new home.

A week after the Las Vegas Raiders cut the veteran, Drake reportedly visited and will sign with the Baltimore Ravens, according to multiplereports, if he passes a physical.

Drake, 28, is coming off a season where he missed the final games of the regular season and the Raiders' lone playoff match after he broke his ankle in Week 13. He appears healthy after appearing in all three of Las Vegas' preseason games and rushing 12 times. Drake tallied 254 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, 291 receiving yards and one touchdown in 12 games for the Raiders in 2021.

This signing makes a lot of sense for the Ravens, whose backfield remains a significant question mark heading into the season.

Presumed starter J.K. Dobbins is still recovering from the ACL tear he suffered this past offseason but is reportedly on track to start Week 1. Backup Gus Edwards, though, will miss at least the first four games of the season after being placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list with a knee injury. That left veteran 29-year-old veteran Mike Davis, rookie Tyler Badie and fourth-year Justice Hill (who's coming off a torn Achilles) as the only other backups behind Dobbins.

Drake, who is entering his seventh season in the league, could see some early action depending on the health of Dobbins and John Harbaugh's faith in the other backups. Davis has the most experience after Drake but totaled just 40 yards on 13 carries in the preseason with an average of 3.1 yards per attempt. Hill and Badie, while young, weren't great in the preseason. Hill averaged 2.0 yards per carry on eight attempts for 16 yards, while Badie averaged 2.83 yards per attempt on 23 carries for 65 yards.

Drake, meanwhile, has averaged 4.5 yards per carry in his career and poses a receiving threat out of the backfield.

The Ravens need health and depth in the backfield after a down 2021 campaign. Drake gives them both.
