Next year locked in: South Carolina unveils 2023 football schedule

South Carolina is only three games into this season, but its 2023 ledger has taken shape.

The Southeastern Conference announced next year’s football schedule on Tuesday night via the SEC Network.

Among the highlights: USC kicks off SEC play at Georgia on Sept. 16. The Gamecocks close the season with four straight home games — including a rare November game against Kentucky.

South Carolina draws Mississippi State as its SEC West crossover opponent in a game to be played Sept. 23 at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks and Bulldogs have only played three times since 2011, with South Carolina winning the 2011 and 2013 iterations of the matchup. MSU won the last time the two teams met in Starkville in 2016 — Will Muschamp’s first year in Columbia.

USC has home SEC games against Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Mississippi State; with road conference games at Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Missouri.

USC’s nonconference schedule will include games against North Carolina, Jacksonville State, Furman and Clemson. The South Carolina-UNC game will be played in Charlotte on Sept. 2 and will be a rematch of the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl, which the Gamecocks won.

South Carolina is currently 1-2 (0-2 SEC) this fall. Head coach Shane Beamer’s squad plays Charlotte on Saturday followed by a visit from South Carolina State. It will re-enter SEC play on Oct. 8 against Kentucky in Lexington.
