Here are the next 10 books up for review taken off Beaufort County school library shelves

The Beaufort County School District on Thursday announced the next 10 titles to be reviewed by committees set up to make decisions on 97 books removed from school libraries in October.

These books will be reviewed in open forum on Feb. 16 and were selected based on print availability, according to district spokesperson Candace Bruder. There are seven members on each committee.

The books are:

  • “Eleanor and Park,” by Rainbow Rowell

  • “Grown,” by Tiffany D. Jackson

  • “I’ll Give You the Sun,” by Jandy Nelson

  • “Monday’s Not Coming,” by Tiffany D. Jackson

  • “Nineteen Minutes,” by Jodi Picoult

  • “Sold,” by Patricia McCormick

  • “All the Things We Do In The Dark,” by Saundra Mitchell

  • “City of Heavenly Fire,” by Cassandra Clare

  • “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter,” by Erika L. Sanchez

  • “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,” by Jesse Andrews

The committees’ decisions can be appealed, but only by the original complainants — outspoken GOP politician Mike Covert and parent and Moms for Liberty member Ivie Szalai.

The titles will be reviewed Feb. 16 and were selected based on print availability, according to district spokesperson Candace Bruder.

If appealed, the school board decides whether to return the books to libraries.

In December, committees decided to return six titles to schools in some capacity, all decisions were appealed by the original complainants, then upheld by the school board.

In January, committees decided to return nine books to schools in some capacity and ban “It Ends With Us.” Szalai said she intends to appeal the decisions to return books to schools. However, Szalai and Covert have yet to submit appeals.

Though committees decided to return all but one book to school libraries, in most cases they limited the scope of their circulation.

The district created a section on its website to track the status of the 97 books under review. It includes whether each title has been reviewed and the decision, as well as scheduled committee meeting dates and locations.
