Yes, the Mexican Inn restaurant is open again. But not the one in north Fort Worth

Mexican Inn Keller restaurant reopens

Hey, Bud! Is the Mexican Inn Café on Henderson ever going to reopen?

—Somebody every week

Another location of the 86-year-old Mexican Inn Café chain finally reopened last week. But it was in Keller, not the historic 1949 location at 612 N. Henderson St.

That restaurant was completely remodeled and will reopen this winter, depending on hiring. The Keller location, 680 S. Main St., is open along with 10 others.

(Mexican Inn is the region’s fourth oldest Tex-Mex restaurant behind El Fenix, The Original and Joe T. García’s. It’s known for Frito-style chips and as the first U.S. restaurant to serve arroz con pollo Mexicano.)

The original Mexican Inn location on Commerce Street downtown closed in 2005.

Margie’s oldest for ‘PEET-sah’

Hey, Bud! Who served the first pizza in Fort Worth, Margie’s or Mama’s?

—Pizza veteran

Tempo Spaghetti House, 601 N. Main St. on the north side, advertised “Pizza — Italian Pie” in 1948, when veterans returning from World War II asked for Italian food.

(The Star-Telegram explained to pronounce it “PEET-sah.”)

Two Southside restaurants served pizza before 1953, when Margie’s opened at 9805 Camp Bowie West Blvd. Mama’s opened in 1968.

Loco Coyote restaurant safe

Hey, Bud! Did the Loco Coyote Grill in Glen Rose burn?

—Message at facebook.com/diningguy

No. Loco Coyote was safe at 1795 County Road 1004, across from the Chalk Mountain Fire, according to Facebook posts. The restaurant’s hours may vary this weekend to feed emergency workers, if the road is open; 254-897-2324, facebook.com/LocoCoyoteGrill.
