Woman in Yuba City apartment and man at Reno casino found dead in suspected murder-suicide
Authorities were investigating the deaths of two people in a suspected murder-suicide after they found man with a fatal gunshot wound at a Reno casino and later found a woman dead in a Yuba City apartment.
On Sunday, officers responded to the apartment in the 1400 block of Stabler Lane, just north of Butte House Road, the Yuba City Police Department announced Tuesday afternoon in a news release.
Police said the officers went to the apartment in Sutter County after they were notified that officers earlier that day had found a man with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Reno casino.
In response, Reno police asked the officers in Yuba City to check on a woman at the Yuba City apartment. Police said the officers entered the Stabler Lane apartment and found the body of the woman. She was dead.
On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office coroner division identified the woman as Catalina Aceves, 38, of Live Oak.
“Our initial investigations suggest that this is a murder-suicide,” Yuba City police officials said in Tuesday’s news release. “The deceased woman and man have been identified, but the names are currently being withheld until their families can be notified.”
Police said the relationship between the two people found dead and the circumstances that led to their deaths remained under investigation.
Detectives believe no other suspects were involved, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the Police Department.
