Wildfire in California wine country prompts evacuations north of Napa, Cal Fire says

A wildfire that sparked in California’s wine country has grown to 100 acres Tuesday afternoon and has prompted evacuations of nearby homes.

The Old Fire, which started just after 3:30 p.m., was burning 5 miles north of Napa, 25 miles east of Santa Rosa and 44 miles west of Sacramento.

By 6 p.m., the fire had burned at least 120 acres and was 5% contained, Cal Fire Lake-Sonoma-Napa unit said in a status update.

Evacuations have been ordered for all of Soda Canyon Road in Napa County evacuation zones NPA-E206-A, NPA-E207, NPA-E214-E and NA-E215-B. Evacuation warnings have been issued for areas to the west: NPA-E206-B and NPA-E214-A.

There was still room for the fire to spread, Cal Fire Division Chief Tom Knecht told the Press Democrat. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire is not in the area under a red flag warning from the National Weather Service. That warning, due to dry conditions and winds gusting up to 30 mph, was issued for the Sacramento Valley.
