White House news conference: Watch live

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will deliver a daily press briefing Friday afternoon.

President Biden on Friday authorized hundreds of additional sanctions against Russia in retaliation for the death of Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny in prison.

Biden has publicly denounced Navalny’s death as the work of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Biden met Thursday in person with Navalny’s widow and daughter.

In a statement marking the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Biden called on the House to pass the national security supplemental package, which includes aid to Ukraine, “before it’s too late.”

The briefing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EST.
