Want an ice cream cone on your Myrtle Beach spring break? Give these places a look

With spring break season in full swing in the Myrtle Beach area, many vacationers are now visiting the area.

Some might want to go to the beach or play golf. Others might visit Broadway at the Beach or a mini golf course, and whether during the day or evening, plenty of vacationers will want an ice cream cone to relax.

In July 2023, the US Census Bureau reported that the average American ate about 20 pounds of ice cream a year, roughly four gallons. Indeed, South Carolina ate the 19th most ice cream in the United States, according to a 2022 article from Zippia.

There are many options in the Myrtle Beach area alone. Yelp’s top five ice cream places include:

  1. Kirk’s 1890 Ice Cream Parlor, 2500 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. Open daily from 11-11 p.m.

  2. Beach Treats Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt, 1802 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. Open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11-11 p.m. and Sunday 1:30-10:30 p.m.

  3. PopStroke, 1187 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach. Open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on weekends.

  4. Kirk’s Ice Cream Parlor, 6101 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, Open daily from 12-11 p.m.

  5. The Crazy Mason, 2461 Coastal Grand Circle, Myrtle Beach. Open daily from 1-10 p.m. North Myrtle Beach’s location is at 1105 Highway 17 South. Open Wednesday through Sunday 3-9 p.m.

Tripadvisor’s top five ice cream shops in the Grand Strand area include:

  1. Meyer’s Ice Cream Parlor, 1906 Highway 17 North, Surfside Beach. Open 5-10:30 p.m. Monday and 12-10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

  2. Abraham’s Gyros, 960 Boardwalk, Myrtle Beach. Open Monday, Wednesday and Sunday from 11-11 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  3. Kirk’s Ice Cream Parlor, 6101 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, Open daily from 12-11 p.m.

  4. Kirk’s 1890 Ice Cream Parlor, 2500 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. Open daily from 11-11 p.m.

  5. Painter’s Homemade Ice Cream, 2107 South Highway 17, Murrells Inlet. Open daily from 12-10 p.m.

  1. Melt, 204 Main Street, North Myrtle Beach. Open daily from 12-10 p.m.

  2. Saltwater Scoops, 9670 North Kings Highway. Open during the spring, Sunday through Wednesday, 2-8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 2-9 p.m.

  3. Stella’s Homemade Ice Cream, 3021 Highway 17, Murrells Inlet. Open 12-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

  4. Meyer’s Ice Cream Parlor, 1906 Highway 17 North, Surfside Beach. Open 5-10:30 p.m. Monday and 12-10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

  5. Bruster’s, 3784 Renee Drive 29579 in Carolina Forest. Open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 4-9 p.m.

While those five were readers’ favorites, other ice cream places have also opened in the Myrtle Beach area recently. In July 2023, Spoonbills Ice Cream opened at Huntington Beach State Park.

The Baked Bear, an ice cream sandwich shop, announced it will open a Broadway at the Beach location. Meanwhile, the waffle and ice cream chain The Dolly Llama is also setting up shop in Myrtle Beach, The Sun News reported in February 2024.
