Victim in Friday night fatal crash identified as Barton E. Luff of New Philadelphia

NEW PHILADELPHIA — Barton E. Luff, 65, of New Philadelphia has been identified as the motorist who died in a crash at 10:20 p.m. Friday on state Route 416 just north of New Philadelphia in Goshen Township.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clinton Armstrong, the crash occurred when the southbound 2001 GMC Jimmy failed to negotiate a curve, traveled across the center line and went off the left side of the road. It hit two highway traffic sign posts and a tree before stopping.

The driver was pronounced dead on scene by an investigator from the Tuscarawas County Coroner's Office.

Luff was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to Sgt. Gary Wolfe.
