UM women’s basketball team lands three transfers, high school commitment

University of Miami women’s basketball coach Katie Meier and her staff have been working overtime the past few weeks; and so far, they landed three transfers and a high school recruit.

The latest player to announce she transferred to Miami is Pepperdine 5-9 guard Ally Stedman, a sophomore who averaged 15.6 points per game last season and was named to the WCC All-Freshman team the year before. She was the Arizona Prep Player of the Year coming out of high school in the Phoenix area and chose Pepperdine over Santa Clara, Georgetown, Pacific and Cal-San Diego.

She comes from a long line of athletes in her family. Her father, Dan, played football at University of Delaware, a brother played football at University of San Diego, and her mother was a Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader.

Stedman will help replace Haley and Hanna Cavinder, also Arizona natives, who transferred to UM last year from Fresno State. The Cavinder twins were part of the Hurricanes’ historic first Elite Eight run and then opted to forego their fifth and final year of eligibility to pursue other options, including the WWE.

The Cavinders also announced Wednesday that they are partnering with sports betting and media company Betr Holdings, which will serve as the sole provider for content about the twins. Betr, which was co-founded by media personality and boxer Jake Paul, will host the Cavinders’ podcast, Twin Talk and they will make appearances on the series BS w/Jake Paul.

Another newcomer to the UM roster is Jaida Patrick, a grad transfer from Columbia who spent the first two years of her college career at Duke.

Patrick, a 5-10 wing, averaged 12.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game last season at Columbia. The West Haverstraw, New York native made second team All-Ivy League and the Dean’s List. Her brother played football at Cornell.

The Hurricanes added a third Canadian player, Arizona transfer guard Lemyah Hylton. She was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and played sparingly for the Wildcats her freshman season. She averaged 1.5 points and 1.1 rebounds.

Hylton will feel at home, as the UM roster includes fellow Canadians Lashae Dwyer and Latasha Lattimore. Dwyer, Jasmyne Roberts and Ja’Leah Williams are returning guards for Miami. Lattimore, Kyla Oldacre and Lazaria Spearman play in the front court.

Miami also got a commitment this week from high school Class of 2024 point guard Ahnay Adams, a native of New Bedford, N.H. who attends Tilton High School. She is 5-6 and was ranked No. 49 on the ESPNW Super 60 list.
