U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson to campaign for Herrell in Las Cruces on Wednesday

Aug. 19—U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson will be in New Mexico on Wednesday to campaign for Republican Yvette Herrell and headline the opening of a new GOP field office in Las Cruces.

"Republicans are all-in on flipping [New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District] red and sending Yvette Herrell back to Congress," Delanie Bomar, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Monday in a statement.

Herrell is running for her old seat against freshman Democrat U.S Rep. Gabe Vasquez — a seat that has flipped back and forth between Democrats and Republicans in recent elections.

The new field office, or so-called Battle Station, "will serve as a hub of the grassroots team that will help elect" Herrell and Republicans up and down the ballot in November, the NRCC said in a news release.

"The NRCC Battle Station program gives GOP campaigns tools to build effective brands with voters and then make sure they turn up at the ballot box — blocking and tackling to grow the majority," NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson said in a statement when the multimillion-program was launched at the start of the year.
