Tyrece Radford takes floor for Texas A&M basketball vs. Florida one day after arrest Friday morning

Tyrece Radford had 15 points in the first half of his Texas A&M team’s game Saturday against Florida at Reed Arena in College Station.

The fact he was even on the court for the Aggies, though, was notable.

Radford was arrested Friday morning for allegedly evading police during a traffic stop on Dec. 3. According to police who were watching from bicycles, Radford disregarded a stop sign in the Northgate area of College Station. When they turned on their lights and approached Radford, he drove away, disregarded another stop sign and nearly hit another vehicle.

Authorities later investigated social media posts and camera footage from the area, which allowed them to identify Radford. The 24-year-old Radford was released from Brazos County Jail Friday afternoon on an $8,000 bond.

In the hours after Radford’s arrest, Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams did not offer any clarity on the playing status of his standout guard.

“I am not supposed to talk about anything legal, but I am completely aware of every single thing that is going on and has been,” Williams said Friday. “I absolutely love Boots (Radford). I love his mom. I love his dad. I love his stepmom. I think in the end, it will all be apparent what has transpired. I have learned a lot from it.”

Radford is the Aggies’ second-leading scorer this season at 13 points per game. The 6-foot-3 guard — a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native — is in his third season with the Texas A&M program after transferring in 2021 from Virginia Tech, where he played for Williams for one season.

The Aggies came into Saturday’s game against Florida 12-8 overall and 3-4 in SEC play.
