Severe weather warnings issued by the NWS for Gardner area: What you need to know

Strong storms are passing through Massachusetts this afternoon and evening with a tornado warning issuedu for much of North Central Massachusetts.

Tornado warning issued earlier

A tornado warning was issued shortly after 3 p.m. for most of Northern Worcester County including Leominster, Fitchburg and Gardner.

At 3:17 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Wendell, or near Orange, moving east at 30 mph, the NWS said.

A tornado and half dollar size hail was possible, the National Weather Service said.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter," says the National Weather Service. "Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."
