The fact that 43-year old Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl win, his seventh, in his first year with the franchise is remarkable enough. The fact that he did it on a substantially injured knee makes it even more incredible.

After the end of the 2020-21 season, it was revealed that Brady had to go under the knife to repair a torn MCL. Now we have a bit more info on when he sustained the injury.

Alex Guerrero, Brady’s long time trainer, spoke to the Boston Herald podcast about the quarterback, touching on his departure from New England and his 2020 season. He also revealed a pretty shocking note about Brady’s knee: he didn’t sustain the injury in 2020. It happened in 2018!

“During that one Tennessee game, was it four years ago? Remember when he ran and got tackled? That’s where he did it,” Guerrero revealed. “We just played on it, and did our work on it, and we’d stabilize the knee.

“Finally, after last season, I’m like, ‘Tommy, as you age, this is something we just have to get fixed as soon as the season is over.’ … And he’s doing great. The rehab went well. We prepared him for the rigors of football, so now we’re into it. Two weeks in, so far, so good.”

The fact that Brady supposedly played more than two full seasons on a torn MCL is wild. Adding to it: he won two Super Bowls in that stretch, the first coming with the Patriots in a defensive slugfest against the Los Angeles Rams.

That means this 44-year old version of Tom Brady might be the healthiest we’ve seen in a long time. Through two weeks, he has 655 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions in a pair of Buccaneers wins over the Cowboys and Falcons.

Tom Brady and Tampa have a very tough test this weekend though, when they hit the road to face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
