He thought he won $100, but then Missouri man checked his Powerball ticket again
When a Missouri man woke up at midnight to check the Powerball numbers, the sight of the winning numbers left him restless.
The man from Jefferson City was a $50,000 winner in the Feb. 6 Powerball drawing, but he was initially skeptical, lottery officials said in a Feb. 15 news release.
“I checked my numbers and saw I matched the Powerball,” the man, who chose to remain anonymous, told Missouri Lottery officials. “Then I started reading and matched one, two, three numbers…and said, ‘Wait a minute – there’s a fourth number!’”
His ticket had four of the numbers from the drawing, with the winning numbers being 5, 11, 22, 23, 69 and the Powerball number 7.
He said he thought he won $100 until he reviewed the ticket.
“I had to go check the prize for matching four white balls — then saw I won $50,000,” he said. “I was ecstatic.”
After a sleepless night, he went to collect his prize the next morning. The man told lottery officials he plans to use some of the winnings for a family trip to Hawaii.
Jefferson City is about 150 miles southeast of Kansas City.
