Things to do this weekend: Monster trucks, concerts, art market and more

Monster Jam

Monster Trucks are returning to Wichita this weekend, but lots of other entertainment options are on the calendar as well. Among them: music from two tribute bands, a Black History Month benefit concert, the Flea Market and an arts market at Mark Arts.

Here’s a rundown of some of the best things to do in Wichita this weekend:

Monster Jam

1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman

Monster Jam returns to Wichita’s Intrust Bank Arena this weekend and will put on shows at 1 and 7 p.m. on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The event features an arena full of dirt, 12,000-pound monster trucks and world-champion drivers who can make the vehicles do back flips and drive vertically on two wheels. Fans also can buy an extra ticket for a Pit Party that happens before the show and allows people to see the trucks up close and get autographs from their favorite drivers. Tickets for the show are $15 to $85, and Pit Party tickets are $20. Tickets are available at selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-SEAT or in person at the Select-A-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

Choir concert

3 p.m. Sunday, Holy Savior Catholic Academy, 3000 E. 13th St.

A benefit concert designed to honor Black History Month will happen at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Holy Savior Catholic Academy. The concert, which will be put on in the school’s new gymnasium, is titled “TEACH: A Journey of Faith,” and it will feature three songs performed by ARISE (African Americans Renewing Interest in Spirituals Ensemble); three songs by the Holy Savior Catholic Academy choir, which is composed of students in grades 3 through 8; and three songs performed by the two choirs together. Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under. To get tickets, contact Dr. Delia Shropshire at 316-684-2141 or at dshropshire@holy-savior.org.

Beatles invasion

8 p.m. Saturday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

Another Beatles tribute band is on its way to Wichita, and this one’s members were hand-picked by Louise Harrison, sister of the late George Harrison. Liverpool Legends, who travel the world performing Beatles hits — and who have their own theater in Branson — will perform at the Orpheum Theater on Saturday. The show starts at 8 p.m. with Wichita band Across the Pond, which performs nostalgic hits from British artists from the 1960s and 1970s, including The Beatles. Tickets are $40 to $65 and are available at selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-SEAT or in person at the Select-A-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

AC/DC Experience

7 p.m. Friday, The Cotillion

If a Beatles tribute band is too soft for you, turn up the rock at a Friday-night show at The Cotillion called The AC/DC Experience. It’s performed by a tribute band called Noise Pollution, which is based in San Diego and performs songs from all eras of AC/DC. Doors open for the show at 6 p.m., and it starts at 7 p.m. with opening act Throes of Rejection. Tickets are $20 at thecotillion.com

Flea Market time

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Kansas Star Casino Arena, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulvane

It’s Flea Market weekend again in Wichita, and this time, it’ll be at The Kansas Star Casino Arena in Mulvane. The monthly shopping event will include 200 booths featuring jewelry, artwork, comics, reclaimed items, collectibles, antiques and more. It’s from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. This weekend’s market will include a Scavenger Hunt with 20 items hidden among the vendor booths. Whoever finds at least 10 of them will be entered in a drawing for prizes, which includes $100 in cash, $20 in cash or 10 free admission tickets to future flea markets. Tickets to the market are $3 for a one-day ticket and $5 for a two-day ticket. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

Art Market at Mark Arts

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Road

Mark Arts will be putting on an art market and open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday in the venue’s Great Hall. It will feature artists, designers and makers selling one-of-a-kind items and hand-made gifts. Among the vendors will be Pam Bjork, Matthew Hilyard and Bill Goffrier. The event will also include live demonstrations by Mark Arts instructors. Admission is free, but the venue is asking for RSVPS at markartsks.com.
