TCU will be without starting quarterback Josh Hoover for spring training camp, the Star-Telegram learned Monday.

Hoover’s injury was undisclosed, but the Horned Frogs expect Hoover to be back for summer workouts in July according to a school spokesman.

It’s a bummer for Hoover, who was hoping to build off a redshirt freshman season where he showed potential of being TCU’s quarterback of the future after Chandler Morris went down with an injury against Iowa State. Hoover made six starts and threw for 2,206 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions along with two rushing touchdowns.

With Hoover sidelined for spring practice, which begins on Saturday, that opens the door for Hauss Hejny and Ken Seals to get more reps. TCU landed Seals out of the transfer portal after he started multiple seasons in the SEC at Vanderbilt.

Hejny was one of the top recruits in TCU’s 2024 recruiting class as a four-star quarterback out of nearby Aledo. Hejny was the Star-Telegram Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Bearcats to a second straight 5A Division I state championship. Hejny is a dual-threat quarterback that won 30 straight starts to end his high school career.

The Horned Frogs’ spring game will be on Saturday, April 27 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
