Tattoo inks sold via Amazon have been recalled. There’s a possible contamination

Three kinds of Bloodline tattoo ink made by Sierra Stain got recalled by the manufacturer because “they are contaminated with high concentrations of microorganisms which present a health concern to consumers.”

Sierra Stain’s FDA-posted recall notice says the FDA testing uncovered the problem.

“Commonly reported symptoms of tattoo ink associated infections include the appearance of rashes or lesions consisting of red papules solely in areas where the contaminated ink has been applied,” the alert says. “Some tattoo infections can result in permanent scarring.”

The recalled Bloodline inks, sold nationwide via Amazon, are:

Carolina Blue, 0.5-ounce bottles, batch No. 1, lot No. BL23, which tested positive for citrobacter braakii; citrobacter farmer; cseudomonas fluorescens; achromobacter xylosoxidans; ochrobactrum anthropic; and cupriavidus pauculus;

All Purpose Black, 1-ounce bottles, batch No. 1, lot No. BL23, which tested positive for acetobacter senegalensis;

UV China Pink, 0.5-ounce bottles, batch No. 1, lot No. SC23, which tested positive for curtobacterium citreum/pusillum.
