Tate Martell is officially heading home. His father, Al Martell, confirmed that his son is transferring to UNLV.

Tate’s collegiate career has been a whirlwind. The former five star began his career at Ohio State, but eventually transferred to Miami to get away from the Buckeyes’ loaded quarterback room. His stint with the Hurricanes didn’t bring about his desired results. He lost the starting gig and tried switching positions to receiver, but was mostly used as a decoy.

Tate is now heading home to Las Vegas to play for Marcus Arroyo and the UNLV Rebels. We assume he’ll get another chance to play quarterback.

Tate’s father, Al, confirmed the transfer to Chris Hummer of 247Sports on Monday.

“He’s going to UNLV,” Al Martell told 247Sports.

This will presumably be Tate Martell’s last chance to prove he’s capable of being a starting quarterback in the NFL. It’s only fitting he attempts to do so in his hometown.

Martell made a name for himself in the great city of Vegas. He was a star for the prestigious Bishop Gorman. He now heads to UNLV where he should have a good shot at winning the starting gig.

The Rebels are led by Marcus Arroyo, who was last the offensive coordinator at Oregon and helped shape now NFL star Justin Herbert. Perhaps he can bring about similar improvement with Martell.

UNLV should be an intriguing team to watch with Martell potentially under center this upcoming season.
