‘Tap here’ takes on a whole new meaning at this Fort Worth self-serve brewery

Take a hop, skip and a jump over to this new self-serve beer tap room.

Hoppin’ Fort Worth has more than 58 high-tech self pour taps of beer, ciders and even wine. If that is not enough, they also have a full bar.

The franchise began in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2017 because the owner, Rich Moyer, liked to pour his own drink. The unique concept uses wristbands that activate the advanced beer tap. It also features an innovative business model that allows employees to work with a smaller staff and have more time to focus on the customers.

“Hoppin’ is a fresh new take on a place to hang out. It’s unique because the self-pour concept keeps the bar from being too crowded. You can just walk up and get a drink yourself.” said Hoppin’ franchise co-owner and Fort Worth native Holly Brittner.

Brittner is opening the location with her husband, Michael. The two fell in love with Charlotte Hoppin’ and decided to bring the concept to her hometown.

Hoppin’s grand opening is on Saturday. On Thursday, they hosted media for an exclusive look into the new digs with beer, cocktails and food from Goat and Vine.

What we saw at Hoppin’ Fort Worth

Hoppin’ is a bright white building with a mural by Dylan Kennedy that matches Funky Town’s culture perfectly. Tucked in the Foundry District, where industrial buildings are painted into art.

As you walk in, you first receive a wristband, which will serve as your tab. You chose between the full bar and the 58 choices of self-serve tap beverages.

The Tap Here buttons are activated by wristbands that also keep track of your tab. Beer is payed for by the ounce so nothing goes wasted.

After grabbing your pint glass, tap the wristband on the “tap here” sensor. It then unlocks the coinciding beer taps in which you can pour yourself a glass. Simultaneously, the wristband racks up beer by the ounce. Every beer is a different price per ounce, but reasonably priced.

The beer selection rotates but always has a variety of options. There were IPAs, lagers, ales and sours. There were also cider options, seltzers and six different wines. The wine options were rose, sangria, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc Pinot noir and cabernet. At the full bar, there are cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.

The location does not have a full kitchen, but it will always be equipped with food trucks on Fridays and Saturdays. According to a press release, it will also partner “with Maple Branch Brewery to deliver pizza to its guests throughout the week and on weekends. “
