It's State Fair time: Here are five things to know before you go

Sep. 4—The New Mexico State Fair begins Thursday and continues through Sept. 15 at Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque. Here are five things you should know before you visit.

1) On opening day, admission prices will be $2 per person with $2 per ride tickets for all attendees. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., food vendors will offer one regular menu item for $5.

2) Gate 1 on Central has parking available for $10 from Monday through Thursday and $20 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Gate 8 on Louisiana offers ample parking but fills quickly. Parking for Gate 8 is $10.

Parking for people with disabilities is best accessible at Gate 1. Gate 8 access for people with disabilities is limited with inclined tunnel access into the fair. Accessible parking is available if you have a placard and the placard holder is in the vehicle. Parking in the Fair West community on the west side of the fairgrounds is prohibited.

Fairgoers can be dropped off or picked up at a special drop-off gate off of California and Domingo. This gate will be a special entrance only for those utilizing rideshare options.

3) Law Enforcement Day is Thursday, and all New Mexico law enforcement officers with a valid ID will receive free admission.

4)Weapons are not allowed. Neither are outside food nor drinks, with some exceptions. Baby formula is allowed, along with certain other exceptions for individuals with medical and special needs.

You may bring sealed plastic water bottles, one per person, that can be filled using water fountains located throughout the fairgrounds. Smoking is permitted in certain areas. Service animals are allowed.
