Stanislaus County school board members are up for reelection. Who will be on the ballot?

Modesto City Schools Board of Education incumbents John Ervin III, Abel Maestas and Homero Mejia all face challengers for their positions.

The filing period for the Nov. 5 ballot ended Friday, Aug. 9. Of the seven board seats, three are up for reelection: trustee Areas 2, 4 and 6.

Roman Messick and Emma Sperling will challenge Ervin in Area 2.

Emma Alonzo will challenge Maestas in Area 4.

Rueth Velez-Langrock and Sebastian Jones will challenge Mejia in Area 6.

Here are candidates in some of the other unified school districts across the county:

TURLOCK UNIFIED

Five of the seven board positions are up for reelection: Areas 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7.

Incumbent Paola Maldonado-Padilla will be challenged by Anna Ramirez in Area 3.

Incumbent Daniel Benedict will be challenged by Debbie Martinez in Area 5.

Incumbent Joe A. Souza will be challenged by Patrick Shields in Area 6.

Incumbent Anthony Silva is unopposed in Area 7.

Area 1 is up for reelection, but incumbent Jose Sanchez withdrew his application for candidacy. No other candidates have yet filed for this area.

CERES UNIFIED

Incumbent Hugo Molina is unopposed in Area 7, as is incumbent Brian de la Porte in Area 1.

Alondra Reyes is running for Area 4. Faye Lane, who currently holds the seat, has not filed her candidacy.

NEWMAN CROWS-LANDING UNIFIED

Incumbent Janice Conforti is being challenged by Maribel Cerutti in Area 1.

Incumbent RoseLee Hurst is being challenged by Matthew Harden, Derek Wach and Mario A. Martins in Area 4.

Lyzette Gonzalez and Scott Scaa are running for Area 3. Tim Bazar, who currently holds the position, has not filed for his candidacy.

OAKDALE JOINT UNIFIED

Incumbent Tina Shatswell is being challenged by Spencer Cooper in Area 3.

Incumbent Terri Taylor is unopposed in Area 2.

PATTERSON JOINT UNIFIED

Incumbent Kieran Carter is running unopposed in Area 1 as are incumbents Carlos Fierros and Martha Blanco Arechiga in Areas 3 and 5.

No candidates have filed for Areas 6 and 7.

RIVERBANK UNIFIED

Incumbent Ernest Velasco is being challenged by Gary Vernon in Area 1.

Incumbent Ana Vigil is unopposed in Area 5.

STANISLAUS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

Incumbent Mary Ann Sanders will be challenged by Jake Kliatchko in Area 4.

Paulo Carvalho was provisionally appointed this year in Area 3 and is running unopposed for reelection.
