Spike strip doesn’t stop alleged drunk fleeing deputies in Pasco at 125+ mph

A driver accused of being drunk reached speeds of more than 125 mph trying to evade Franklin County sheriff’s deputies, the agency said in a Saturday social media post.

Thursday night, a white Dodge Charger zoomed past a deputy on routine patrol and took the on-ramp north to Washington’s Highway 395, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver accelerated and cut off several cars, according to the sheriff’s office.

A deputy was able to catch up to the car and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped off.

As it went west on Interstate 182, spike strips were set out by other officers. But that did not stop the speeding Charger, said the sheriff’s office.

Because of the car’s speed and the darkness, law enforcement officers lost sight of the car and ended the pursuit.

The car was later found in the Richland WinCo parking lot with at least one of its front tires flattened.

Alex Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of DUI, obstruction of law enforcement, reckless driving, attempting to elude, ignition interlock violation and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Richland and Pasco police helped the sheriff’s deputies in the pursuit and arrest.
