Small plane crash-lands in a pond at Florida country club

A small propeller plane with two people on board crashed at the Pelican Pointe Gold and Country Club in Venice, Fla., Saturday afternoon, sending one person to the hospital.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the plane was forced to make an emergency landing near the club due to engine problems and ended up in a pond as a result.

The single-engine plane is owned by the Florida Flight Training Center nearby the country club. It took off from Venice Municipal Airport 50 minutes before the crash. The flight map indicates that the plane circled a few times near the area where it went down.

Of the two people that were on the plane, only was taken to the hospital for observation deputies said.

The FAA is investigating.
