A simulated neighborhood is being built in North Puyallup. What will it be used for?

Puyallup residents may notice construction happening off Todd Road.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is building a training facility at 325 Todd Road NW. The facility will provide hands-on training for PSE field workers, first responders, engineers and project management staff, according to an Aug. 8 news release.

The facility includes classrooms, labs and outdoor training areas, such as a simulated neighborhood, so workers can have real-life training experience. They’ll use the facility to learn how to safely repair broken gas lines and replace power poles, among other things.

PSE already owned the vacant land the training facility will sit on, PSE spokesperson Gerald Tracy told The News Tribune via email. Construction is expected to finish by fall 2025. Tracy wasn’t able to immediately confirm the cost of the project.

“This state-of-the-art training center demonstrates PSE’s commitment to a highly skilled workforce and culture of safety for PSE employees and our many partners,” Ron Roberts, PSE’s senior vice president of energy resources, said in the news release.

The real estate development firm handling the project is Trammell Crow Company. The company is based in Dallas, according to the news release.
